Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging — or MRI —  utilizes a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer in order to obtain detailed images internal organs and other parts of the body. MRIs are generally used to help diagnose or monitor treatment for a variety of conditions.

Of all imaging technologies, MRIs are known to offer the most precise image. It’s specifically designed to show the structure and detail of organs, soft tissue and bones, which can pinpoint all types of issues from abnormalities to disease. DeKalb Regional Medical Center performs MRIs with your comfort in mind. Nervous about your test? Just speak to a staff member.

Note: MRIs are not for everyone. Patients with pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators need to alert staff members about these devices. Because of the strong magnets used during the scan, these devices can be affected negatively and may malfunction during an MRI. Ask your healthcare provider if you have concerns. Often, a CT scan may be a safer option.
